Kuala Lumpur Hotel: DoubleTree by Hilton – Review

  • Post published:March 7, 2025

Time of stay: December 2024

Room booked: 2 Twin Beds

Price: 20,000 Hilton points per night. Cash prices vary depending on the season, but are usually $80-100 USD per night.

Room

The room itself was very large. There is a closet and luggage storage space in the hallway when you first enter the room, then ample space to open large luggages. There was even a separate coffee table and couch. The main desk was very large as well.

  • Housekeeping was provided daily.
  • A welcome gift of some fruit (apple, banana, orange), 2 mini jars of peanuts, and some kuih was provided.
  • 2 bottles of water are provided daily. There is no filtered water dispenser in the hotel.
  • Some tea and instant coffee packets are provided.
  • There is a “pillow menu”, so you can contact the front desk to get your choice of different firmness pillows sent up to your room.
  • The thermostat was adjustable and the AC not too loud.
  • The room overall felt a little dark at night time, because there were not enough main lights.
  • Slippers are provided.
  • There is an in-room safe which was reliable to use.

Bathroom

The bathroom was quite spacious as well. The sink space had ample space for storing your items. There are some basic toiletries provided, including a toothbrush, and a toiletry kit (cotton swabs and cotton rounds).

The bathroom could get sort of slippery when wet (I experienced this), hence the warning not to wear slippers in the bathroom.

A hose-style bidet is provided by the toilet.

Body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are provided. There is no storage inside the shower for your own toiletries.

A robe is also provided in the bathroom.

Hotel Amenities

This is the view from the hallway. My room did not have a great view as it was facing a random building.

  • There are no self-service laundry machines available.
  • There is no microwave available for use in the hotel.
  • The check-in process was quick, and you are provided with a warm chocolate chip and walnut cookie.
  • There is a pool but I did not use it.

This hotel is connected to Intermark Mall. You will need to take the escalator (or elevator) from the entrance of the mall up one floor to get to the lobby, then take another elevator to get to the room floors. I never experienced any long wait times for the elevators.

Getting to/from airport

To get from KUL airport, I took Grab. The price was RM 79. The ride took 1.5-2 hours when leaving the airport around ~5:30pm on a Wednesday.

I recommend taking Grab because there is no airport↔︎hotel shuttle, and the streets around the hotel are not really walkable (even without luggage). You can take the Airport train to KL Sentral then transfer to the LRT, however I recommend just take a Grab from KL Sentral or just take a Grab directly from the airport.

Proximity to public transportation

The Ampang Park LRT station is approximately a 6 minute walk away, however the area around the hotel did not feel walkable. In addition, KL is huge and the LRT rarely took me close enough to my destination, so I utilized Grab the entire time to get around KL.

As this hotel is connected to Intermark Mall, there is an area for Grab to stop at the entrance. However, Grab drivers cannot wait there so you will need to be ready to board once your driver arrives.

Nearby attractions

As mentioned earlier, this hotel is connected to Intermark Mall which was convenient as there is a Jaya Grocer, Watsons, and a Guardian. There are a few restaurants, though they were quite pricey. There are some lower end options and a small food court, but nothing I would be excited to eat at. There is a limited amount of stores as well.

This hotel is located in Bukit Bintang, centrally downtown, however you will still need to take Grab to get anywhere or be ready to cross the car-packed streets and the walk in the humid weather. Technically, you can walk to Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC in about 20 minutes.

Chinatown is a 15 minute Grab ride away.

Conclusion

If you’d like to use Hilton points and stay in the city center, then this hotel is for you! Although the room itself was nice and spacious, because of the location, I (personally) wouldn’t stay here again. This is mainly because most of the things that interest me are outside of the city center.

You will likely need to Grab everywhere, but if all your activities are in the city center, then everything is a short ride away. I personally did not care for the shopping or eating options (besides Jaya Grocer) in Intermark Mall, so having to travel and deal with Grab for all my activities was not ideal. However, the hotels connected to the more popular shopping centers in Bukit Bintang are much more expensive.
