Singapore Airlines Vegetarian / Vegan Meals – Review

  • Post published:March 20, 2025

If you’re wondering what vegetarian / vegan meal options Singapore Airlines offers, as well as some examples of what I’ve eaten while flying Singapore Airlines, continue reading below.

How to request a vegetarian/vegan meal

If you login to your Singapore Airlines account to view your flight reservation, there should be an option to select a special meal. Be sure to pre-order your special meal at least 24 hours in advance, so that Singapore Airlines can make sure your meal is available for your flight.

Unfortunately, in case of any last minute flight changes, your meal may not be available. Lucky for vegetarians – on long haul flights, a vegetarian meal (usually Indian style) is available on the flight menu even if you didn’t preorder!

HOWEVER, I highly recommend you pre-order (even if you are planning on choosing the vegetarian option on the in-flight menu). On my long haul flight, it seemed like nearly half the flight had a pre-ordered menu. My travel partner, who did not pre-order a meal, was served very late in the meal service and was stuck with the one meal that was left. Although they did not want a vegetarian meal, it is possible that the vegetarian meal could run out. You are able to pre-order a meal from the in-flight menu (for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian), when the in-flight menu is available (usually 21 days before your flight). Just login to your Singapore Airlines account and look at your reservation details.

After boarding but before takeoff, the flight attendants will come by and verify that your name, seat number, and meal request.

During meal service, special meals get served before pre-ordered meals. So if you’ve pre-ordered your meal, you can look forward to eating first! Most of the time, if you didn’t get the vegetarian meal on the in-flight menu, your meal is a mystery, though sometimes there will be a very short label of what the food is.

Vegetarian and vegan options

Singapore Airlines provides many different types of vegetarian meals. Please refer to their website for the latest options and descriptions.

Vegetarian Indian Meal (AVML)
Vegetarian Jain Meal (VJML)
Vegetarian Oriental Meal (VOML)
Vegetarian Vegan Meal (VGML)
Vegetarian Lacto-Ovo Meal (VLML)

Meals I’ve eaten on Singapore Airlines

While you cannot see the exact dish you will receive before ordering it (only the descriptions like the ones above), and the meals vary even if you fly the same route, the below will give you an example of what you might receive! Hopefully these help in determining which meal to order for your flight.

Vegetarian oriental meal (Long haul, Asia to USA)

Vegetarian Oriental Meal: Typically cooked in Asian style, this meal does not contain meat, seafood, egg and dairy products.

*Although labeled as vegetarian, since it does not contain dairy or egg, it is also vegan

Time: December 2024

Route: Singapore (SIN) to San Francisco (SFO); 15 hour flight. This was the main entree served at the beginning of the flight, and another meal follows closer to arrival time.

Main entree
Pad thai with tofu, carrots, and green beans

Sides
Cold salad with mushrooms (and some sort of dressing)
Bread with margarine
Jelly dessert

Taste rating: I definitely wasn’t expecting to get pad thai on a flight, and it may not taste authentic, but it was definitely one of the best airline meals I’ve had. On the other hand, the side dishes were pretty disgusting and I didn’t eat much of it after tasting.

Main entree
Tofu tender with rice, carrots, okra, and potatoes

Sides
Cold salad with edamame, beancurd, wood ear mushroom (+ dressing)
Bread with margarine
Matcha cake

Taste rating: The tofu tenders are one of my favorite meals that Singapore Airlines serves. I would pay money for this in a restaurant! Likewise with most airline meals, the matcha cake however was dry.

Vegetarian oriental meal (BKK to SIN)

Time: October 2023

Route: Bangkok (BKK) to Singapore (SIN); 2.5 hour flight

Main entree
Tofu tender with rice, carrots, and Chinese vegetables

Sides
Chocolate cake

Taste rating: This was actually the first time I had Singapore Airlines’ tofu tenders, which really set the bar high for airline meals! Even though it was only a short flight, getting such a tasty meal was a welcome surprise. The cake was, as usual, dry.

PEN – SIN (Meal selection not available for short flight)

For my very short flight between Penang (PEN) and Singapore (SIN) that was only 1.5 hours long, a snack was provided. However, in my flight reservation, I was unable to select a special meal. The meal that was provided was mushroom pizza (not vegan).

Time: December 2024

Route: Penang (PEN) to Singapore (SIN); 1.5 hours flight

Main entree
Mushroom pizza with thyme

Taste rating: Although some of the cheese came off because it was stuck to the box, it was a nice treat. A good choice to appeal to most people!

Overall conclusion and rating

Singapore Airlines definitely is at the top of my list in terms of airplane meals. I really appreciate how well seasoned and balanced the meals are. Unlike other airlines, Singapore Air’s meals contain an ample amount of protein. I also appreciate how a vegetarian meal is by default on the in-flight menu.

I look forward to flying Singapore Airlines again and eating their meals!
