View →Time of stay: October 2023
Room booked: Studio with two twin beds
Price: ~162 USD/night after taxes, non-refundable rate
Room
The room felt very modern and newly renovated, though could be a little small for 2 people. There was only a small bench to put luggage and a medium sized desk.
Depending on your room, you may get a nice view of Little India.
The AC worked very well, was adjustable based on the thermostat in the room, and was quiet.
Kitchenette
The room I booked had a small kitchenette: microwave, sink, small fridge, and some plates and utensils.
Bathroom
The bathroom was separated from the bedroom with a sliding door. Body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were provided in the shower. There was a hose style bidet next to the toilet.
Hotel Amenities
- There is a water dispenser on every floor.
- There is a gym and pool (though I did not use either).
- There are laundry machines available for use for a fee (though I did not use it).
- Housekeeping was not provided daily (only certain days of the week, about every other day).
Something mildly inconvenient about the design of the hotel is that you had to take 2 elevators to get to your room. There was one elevator at the entrance of the hotel to get to the lobby, and then you had to take another elevator to access the floor of your hotel room.
Location
Citadines Rochor is located centrally in Little India.
Getting to/from airport
I took Grab, and it cost me 20 SGD and took 22 minutes.
You can take the MRT directly from the airport, but you would need to make several transfers and is thus why I decided to take a Grab directly.
Proximity to MRT station
There are 2 MRT stations located about a 4 minutes walk from the hotel:
Rochor (DTL line). The only con is that the subway entrance located closest to the hotel required you to wait and take the elevator each time.
Little India (DTL and NE line)
Nearby attractions
Unfortunately, there’s no large grocery store located close to this hotel.
Located right next to the hotel is Tekka Centre, which is a hawker center with both Indian and Chinese stalls. You can also take your pick of many of the several Indian restaurants located near the hotel. There is also Berseh Food Centre located 15 minutes walk away.
You can take the NE line to Chinatown and be there in 15 minutes.
Orchard Road is a 15 minute bus ride away.
The DTL line also connects you to easily to several of Singapore’s top tourist attractions in under 30 minutes.
Conclusion
Overall, Citadines Rochor was nice stay at a fairly reasonable price compared to the rest of Singapore, that came with the additional amenity of the kitchenette. If you are looking for something slightly better than “budget”, this hotel is going to be the best value for your money. The proximity to the MRT station was a huge plus with Singapore’s hot and humid weather.
