Best Budget Hotel in Singapore: Lyf Farrer Park – Review

  • Post published:September 25, 2024

Time of stay: April 2024

Room booked: One of A Kind (Studio) with one double bed

Price: ~140 SGD/night after taxes, non-refundable rate

I booked directly on the Ascott website. Be sure to join their rewards program as there are often promotions, so I got my room for an additional 5% off.

Room

The room itself was well designed, and felt very modern and newly renovated. There was very ample desk space, sink space, and plenty of space to hang clothes. There is a space below the bed to store your luggage.

My room had a nice view.

The AC worked very well, was adjustable based on the thermostat in the room, and was super quiet. I did not even hear it while trying to sleep.

Bathroom

The bathroom is an open floor plan, so there is no separate “room” for the bathroom, which means there is no changing area. Body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were provided in the shower. There is a hose style bidet next to the toilet.

Hotel Amenities

There is no fridge inside the room, but there is a communal fridge on each floor. However, there is no air conditioning in the hallways. There is a water dispenser on each floor near the fridge, but the water was not sufficiently cold enough.

Communal kitchen
  • There is a shared kitchen (only on one floor), with cooking utensils, pans, and basic condiments available for you to use.
  • There is a gym (though I did not use it).
  • There are laundry machines available for use for a fee (though I did not use it).
  • Housekeeping was not provided daily (only once every few days depending on your stay length).

Location

Lyf Farrer Park is located on the far end of Little India, and is still very centrally located to most of Singapore’s top attractions.

Getting to/from airport

I took Grab, and it cost me 25 SGD and took 24 minutes.

You can take the MRT directly from the airport, but you would need to make several transfers and is thus why I decided to take a Grab directly.

Proximity to MRT station

The Farrer Park MRT, on the purple (NE) line, was extremely close – it was only a 1-2 minute walk that is nearly all covered. There is an escalator to access the station.

Nearby attractions

City Square Mall is a few minutes walk, and the quickest route would be going be by going to the Farrer Park MRT station and walking through the station to City Square Mall entrance. City Square Mall has most essentials that you’ll need: grocery stores (Don Don Donki, Fair Price) as well as some food court options.

You can get to Chinatown in a 15 minute MRT ride or to Orchard Road in a 25 minute ride.

You can get to hawker centers (Tekka Centre, Bendemeer Market & Food Centre) by taking the MRT one stop away.

Conclusion

Overall, Lyf Farrer Park was a very nice stay at an extremely reasonable price compared to the rest of Singapore. In my experience, you cannot find a hotel room that is newly renovated and clean for lower than the price per night that I paid. The proximity to the MRT station was a huge plus with Singapore’s hot and humid weather. Being able to swing by City Square Mall to pick up any essentials was also very convenient.
